Dry embossing adds beautiful
texture for scrapbook backgrounds
and cards.  This technique
produces a raised image.  You can
dry emboss on cardstock, vellum or
foil sheets.

These examples feature the
Whimsy Designs brass template
and Groovy, the April Stamp of the
Month.
Embossing on Cardstock
You will need a stylus, a stencil,
cardstock and a light source.
During the day you can use a
window.  If it's dark outside you'll
need a light box or light table.
Close To My Heart has a nice one
and they are available in most craft
stores.
1.  Place your template on the
window or light box.  You may want
to tape it down.
2.  Put your cardstock on top of the
stencil.  (The side of the cardstock
against the template will be the right
side when you are finished.)  You'll
be able to see the design through
the cardstock.
3.  Use the stylus like a pencil to
trace design.
4.  If you want to repeat the design
simply move the cardstock.
5.  Close To My Heart's®
cardstock is different from most
other types because the colored
cardstock has a white core.  This
makes it ideal for dry embossing.
You can use sandpaper to lightly
sand the cardstock.  This will reveal
the white core and the design will
really pop.
Embossing on Vellum
You won't need a light source
because you'll be able to see the
stencil through the vellum.  You do
need to be careful not to press hard
or the vellum will tear.  It's a good
idea to practice on some scraps of
vellum before you work on your
project.
After you emboss you can use soft
chalks to highlight the embossed
area if you like.
Embossing on Foil Sheets
This process is different than using
cardstock.  You can use any stamp.
You'll need a soft surface like a
mouse pad.  Stamp with your My
Acrylix™ stamps and any ink on the
back of the foil.  Place the foil on
the mouse pad and trace the
design with your stylus.
Close To My Heart's® gold foil
sheets are silver on the back so you
get double the value!  You can also
accent the embosssing by gently
coloring it with nail polish remover.
I use a q-tip.  The silver color will
show wherever you apply it.
